What is Bay Area Hurricanes basketball?
Bay Area Hurricanes is a competitive, development-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit youth basketball program based in San Jose, California, serving the South Bay and greater Bay Area. We work with select athletes only and field one team per age group so standards, coaching, and competition stay high.
What age groups do you field?
Teams run from 12u through 17u, and all of them are competitive. Our 15u to 17u teams do more traveling. Our 12u to 14u teams travel less, focusing more on building the player while still playing in meaningful tournaments.
How do players make a team?
Tryout dates are announced ahead of each season. Email coachjared@bayareahurricanes.com to be notified when the next one is scheduled. Roster spots are earned through effort, consistency, and performance. No guaranteed spots, and players can move between teams based on development.
Why only one team per age group?
One team per age group keeps standards high, coaching consistent, and competition real inside the program. Where an age group has enough high-level talent, we may field two “A” teams run on an NBA and G League model, with players moving up or down based on performance.
Are you a nonprofit?
Yes. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Donations go directly toward gym rentals, tournament fees, uniforms, and equipment, keeping the program affordable and accessible for all kids regardless of financial situation.
